AUXILIARY POLICE

The Wilmington Auxiliary Police was formed in August 1980 as a volunteer organization, with police training, that could assist the regular police department in emergency situations and provide volunteers for various town and civic group functions. The Wilmington Auxiliary Police is made up of approximately 15 members, with a Lieutenant as the commanding officer, an Administrative Sergeant, and four squads of patrolman, each headed by a Sergeant. Each member has completed the Reserve/Intermittent training program conducted by the Northeast Regional Police Institute and must qualify with a firearm each year and certify in both CPR and First Responder training.

The town provides a marked cruiser for the volunteers to conduct a School Patrol function in which two officers are required to conduct routine patrols of town-owned property from 7:00PM to 11:00PM each evening. Each officer is required to complete a minimum of eight volunteer hours per month on school patrol.

People interested in becoming a member of the organization should email Lt. Scott Sencabaugh.
