CITIZEN CPR COURSES

Due to budget constraints we are not able
to hold a course at this time.
Future course announcements will be posted here and in local newspapers
Posted January 2012

From time to time throughout the year, The Wilmington Police Department will host Adult and Child CPR classes at the Wilmington Public Safety Building.  When these classes become available, they will be posted on this site, along with applications.

The classes are taught by certified instructors from the Wilmington Police Dept. The courses are sanctioned by the American Heart Association, and are intended to be familiarization classes.  In other words, there is no certification per se, however students learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and other life threatening episodes as well as comprehensive “hands on” skills that can be used in the event that the student witnesses a sudden cardiac arrest.

Officer Brian Hermann & Christine

These classes are open to anyone who lives and works in Wilmington and are free of charge.  We encourage spouses, parents, babysitters and anyone interested in learning a new skill and meeting new friends to apply.

There is some minor physical activity required for the course, such as kneeling on the floor and practicing skills learned in the class on manikins.

Due to the extreme popularity that this course has enjoyed, we will only open the application periods for short periods of time prior to each course, so we encourage perspective applicants to check back often for the latest announcements.

Only applicants who receive confirmation of attendance will be allowed to attend.  We prefer applications to be sent by e-mail, as it increases the speed and ease in which we can correspond with you regarding the course you signed up for.

Adult CPR – signs and symptoms of adult cardiac arrest, CPR, relieving a foreign body airway obstruction (choking).

Child & Infant CPR - signs and symptoms of infant/child cardiac arrest, CPR, relieving a foreign body airway obstruction (choking).

All course are also sanctioned by the American Heart Association.

Applications can be sent to and questions can be directed to Lt. Scott Sencabaugh at
ssencabaugh@wpd.org or 978-658-5071 x222
