Rt. 129 at Billerica/Wilmington Town Line Closing September 24

Starting Monday, September 24, 2007, Billerica will begin sewer construction on Rt. 129 starting at the Wilmington town line. This will entail the closure of Rt. 129 to all traffic. This project will take approximately 3 weeks. Westbound car traffic will be detoured down Nichols St. out to Whipple Rd. in Billerica.

Signs and signboards will be placed along the detour and construction routes to warn of the work. The road closure will be in effect from 7am-5pm daily, Monday through Friday.

Truck Traffic will not be allowed down Shawsheen Ave, beyond Hopkins Street. All truck traffic will be detoured up Hopkins St. to Alexander Rd. in Billerica and out to 3A. No truck traffic will be allowed down Nichols St.

Lowell St/West St Intersection

The town has received funds to improve this intersection with new traffic signals and for street widening to accommodate turn lanes, etc. Construction is due to start sometime in September. This project should complete in 2007.

Lowell Street and Main Street Mass Highway Project (Intersection of Rt. 129 and Rt. 38)

Beginning late summer of 2005, construction began on Lowell Street from Main Street to almost the Woburn Street intersection. Improvements will eventually include granite curbs, sidewalks, a new bridge over Maple Meadow Brook, drainage work, new pavement, and a reconfiguration of the intersection with traffic lights at Main and Lowell.

Hours of work will be from 7:00am to 3:30pm Monday though Friday with some utility work being done on the weekends. Completion date of the project is tentatively scheduled to be March 2007. This is a Mass Highway Project

Route 125/ Ballardvale Street Project beginning Spring 2005

As many may have noticed, signage and the beginning steps of a 1 ½ year long project have been put in place. This project entails the construction of a new Northbound I-93 on-ramp from Route 125 west. Route 125 will be widened to accommodate the new on ramp between Ballardvale Street and the I-93 interchange. Traffic signalization improvements will be made at Ballardvale Street and Route 125. Provisions will be made during construction to maintain the existing traffic patterns within the construction site
